Kinetic Sculptures by Theo Janssen
Theo Jansen is a Dutch artist who builds beautiful works of “Kinetic Sculptures”, huge artificial animal skeletons using the winds to walk across the beaches of the Netherlands.
Theo Jansen uses long plastic tubes to create his out-of-this-world-looking “Strandbeest” creatures. They use the power of the wind to move forward so “they don’t have to eat”. His futuristic fusion of art and engineering which has been around since the early 90s are becoming better and better at surviving the elements such as storms and water. He says, “The walls between art and engineering exist only in our minds.”
